This is what the signal researchers give of late regarding the age-long habit of a vast sect of the people of this wonderful planet. It does not mean sitting long hours at work alone. In fact sitting long hours without getting up and moving out could jeopardize the health of the individual. It means sitting long hours in schools and colleges, in office, before computer, TV, business establishments or at any place without getting up and moving out.
Even Exercise will not Save You!
The health hazard in sitting long hours has been the subject of research and study for long. It is reported in the study of a World Health Organization health expert that people who tend to sit for long hours and do exercise once in a day could benefit more if they spread the exercise across the day and not at a single stretch. When one sits for long hours, the body starts sending wrong signals and one would feel fatigue and body aches. It is the right indication that the prolonged sitting is going to have adverse effect in the person.
Genes Shut Down in Prolonged Sitting:
The study about the health hazard of long sitting has brought forward another factor. When you sit for long hours without getting up and moving about and doing any physical activity, the genes responsible for fat control in your body tend to shut down its operation and that adversely affect you health as fat and related health-retarding components in the body add up.
Elin Ekblom-Bak of the SwedishSchool of Sport and Health Sciences in an editorial published recently in the British Journal of Sports Medicine has pointed to the need of authorities rethinking about defining physical activity in order that the dangers of sitting could be highlighted.
Long Hour Sitting and Once-a-Day Exercise not Ideal:
The World Health Organization (WHO) physical activity expert Tim Armstrong has pointed to the need of spreading the once in a day exercise to several times in the day. This will bring in more benefit to you than doing it at a single stretch.

Sitting long hours is a health hazard. Instead of exercising once in a day, if the exercising time is spread intermittently over the day, it can not only increase the productivity, but it can enhance the quality of the out put also.
Organizations and Authorities Need Rescheduling the Leisure Time:
Sitting long hours could be a health hazard as per many studies. In the light of the findings, organizations and authorities engaging work force need rescheduling the leisure time activity so that both the health and productivity of the personnel could be improved. It is found ideal to allow a break of half an hour leisure time activity after every two hours continuous work. This arrangement could refresh and invigorate the work force and improve their health. This will result in the enhanced productivity level of the workers.
